Co-op at Sage Product Development, Inc.

Sage PD is a product development company that specializes in designing medical devices. I worked briefly for them for a few months for my fourth co-op. Due to NDAs, specific work examples may not be included.

Background:

Sage PD is composed of over a dozen different engineers who all work on different projects either alone or in teams as per client contract. During my time there I got to work with several engineers on different projects, supporting them as needed.

Summary:

I was initially brought on to assist in the assembly of a specific device for design verification. After that my work expanded to helping three teams in various stages of the design process. The stages ranged from initial concept to prototyping. Most of my work revolved around research, vendor contact, and machining tasks, essentially cutting down on the busy work of the engineers. I gained experience with a new set of 3D printing software, general machining, and as always SolidWorks design.

Process:

The work I did was entirely dependent on what each team needed that week. General tasks revolved around client contact, vendor contact, machining, and assembling prototypes and conceptual sub assemblies. This co-op continued to expand my understanding of the industry, the engineering process, and improved efficiency in both design and client/vendor communication.
